MRI Düsseldorf at Your Orthopaedist
At Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery Golzheim/Düsseldorf, many diagnostic questions arise that involve back pain, disc problems, or sports injuries.
At OU Golzheim, we combine orthopaedics and state-of-the-art MRI under one roof. This saves you the hassle of referrals and allows you to receive your diagnosis and treatment recommendation directly from your orthopaedist – quickly, conveniently, and at the highest quality.
What is an MRI?
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), also known as magnetic resonance tomography, is an advanced imaging examination. Using a magnetic field and radio waves, detailed images of the body regions to be examined are created. This method makes it possible to detect even the smallest pathological changes that cannot be identified with other imaging techniques.
How it works at a glance:
- Magnetic field technology: The strong magnetic field aligns hydrogen protons in the body.
- Radio wave pulses: Targeted impulses deliver energy to the protons, which is then emitted.
- Signal reception & reconstruction: Special coils receive the signals, and a computer creates high-resolution images from them.
Your benefits of MRI in Düsseldorf:
- Radiation-free: No X-rays or gamma rays, ideal for repeated examinations.
- High resolution: Fine soft tissue differences are optimally displayed.
- Versatile: Used in orthopaedics, neurology, cardiology, and more.
Your Orthopaedist with Integrated MRI
At the OU Golzheim private practice, you benefit from the seamless integration of orthopaedic examination and state-of-the-art MRI – all at the same location and in the same treatment unit. Our practice combines orthopaedics, trauma surgery, and radiology to ensure optimal patient care. With this system, we offer more precise diagnoses and significantly improve your treatment outcomes.
- Short distances, fast results: You only come to our practice once, instead of first to the orthopaedist and then to radiology.
- Comprehensive care: Your orthopaedist accompanies you from the medical history through imaging to the treatment recommendation.
- Familiar environment: No unfamiliar radiology department, but your familiar orthopaedic practice with a personal atmosphere.
Our Equipment:
We use the state-of-the-art MRI system “G-scan Brio” by Esaote, which delivers first-class images thanks to precisely fitting coils and is ideal for patients with claustrophobia. The unique upright MRI enables diagnoses in a natural posture under body weight, which realistically assesses the condition of cartilage, meniscus, and ligaments.
Certification:
The “G-scan Brio” system by Esaote complies with Directive 93/42/EC for medical devices and is classified as a Class IIa device. It has also been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under 510(k) clearance.
Our Radiologist Dr. Christoph Steinmeyer
Dr. Christoph Steinmeyer has been a licensed physician since 1969 and completed his specialist training in the radiology department of Düsseldorf University Hospital. After receiving board certification in radiology in 1974, he worked as a senior physician at Bethesda Hospital Duisburg from 1975 to 1979. From 1980 to 2006, he was established in a joint radiology and nuclear medicine practice. He has acquired additional qualifications in nuclear medicine, radiation therapy, computed tomography, MRI, and sonography. His applied interventional methods include CT-guided periradicular therapy and facet joint blocks. He has been able to contribute his many years of radiological diagnostic experience, particularly in the field of MRI, to various medical care centers. Since 2017, he has been working at MRI Golzheim in Düsseldorf.
What can be examined with an MRI?
With our integrated MRI at OU Golzheim in Düsseldorf, you receive precise diagnostics in numerous areas – directly at your orthopaedist: An MRI of the spine, for example, provides information about:
- Herniated discs, disc bulges, or disc prolapse
- Inflammatory changes of the spine
- Changes in the spinal cord
An MRI of the joints provides information about:
- Wear and inflammation of the joints
- Injuries to cartilage, ligaments, and capsules
- Injuries to muscles and tendons
Magnetic resonance imaging is particularly suitable for examining soft body tissue such as discs, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. All of these tissues contain large amounts of water or hydrogen atoms, which we can visualize and assess very well with MRI. The images are taken completely painlessly and without radiation exposure using a layered, three-dimensional process. Upon request, you can receive your MRI images on a CD-ROM so that you can discuss the findings with your doctor. A detailed report is prepared by our radiologist for every examination.

Contrast agents in MRI – When and why?
At OU Golzheim, we always perform MRI without contrast agents.
What is the difference between MRI and CT?
MRI works radiation-free with magnetic fields and radio waves; CT uses X-rays. MRI provides particularly good soft tissue and joint imaging.
Do I need a referral?
For statutory health insurance patients paying out of pocket, a referral is usually required. Private patients can often book an appointment directly.
How long does the examination take?
Depending on the area being examined, 10–30 minutes. There are also short preparation and follow-up consultation times.
When will I receive the results?
Immediately after the imaging, your orthopaedist will discuss the results with you – usually on the same day.
How quickly can I get an appointment?
